VNC merupakan software remote control yang dapat digunakan untuk melihat dan berinteraksi dengan suatu komputer melalui komputer lain dalam jaringan, baik lokal ataupun Internet. VNC adalah sebuah teknologi yang bisa mengizinkan kita untuk mengakses komputer lain secara remote. Kita bisa bekerja atau ngendalikan komputer remote dengan memakai laptop atau memakai komputer lain.
VNC (Virtual Network Computing) juga bisa didefinisikan sebagai semacam share desktop secara remote. Mudahnya, kita seolah-olah berada di depan komputer yang jaraknya cukup jauh. Sebelum dapat menggunakan fasilitas remote menggunakan VNC terlebih dahulu kita harus melakukan beberaoa langkah, yaitu:
• Penginstalan Paket VNC di Linux SUSE
• Disable Fire Wall
• Menggunakan fasilitas VNC
A. Penginstalan Paket VNC di Linux SUSE
Agar dapat menggunakan VNC dalam linux kita harus menginstal paket VNC terlebih dahulu. Dalam menginstal paket VNC ini tidaklah terlalu sulit, apalagi dalam DVD linuxnya sudah tersedia, jadi kita tidak perlu repot-repot mencarinya lagi.
Setelah computer anda terhubung dengan jaringan, cobalah untuk Ping computer lain atau Share, jika berhasil maka computer sudah terhubung dengan jaringan. Adapun cara menginstal paket VNC di Linux SUSE sebagai berikut:
1. Langkah adalah kita harus membuka Terminal atau Konsole.
2. Lalu masuk Super User (Root).
3. Lalu ke Yast. Pilih software> Software Management.
4. Tekan Alt+F dan tekan Alt+S untuk search paket instalasi. Ketik “vnc”> Enter. Lalu muncul paket yang akan diinstal. Kemudian arahkan pada paket> tekan Enter untuk memberi perintah instalasi. Tekan Accept untuk memulai instalasi.
5. Tunggu sampai proses instalasi selesai.
B. Men-Disable Firewall
Cara men-disable firewall, sebagai berikut:
1. Masuk Yast. Pilih Security and Users> Firewall.
2. Pilih “Stop Firewall” dengan menekan Alt+T, pilih “Disable Firewall automatic starting”. Lalu pilih Next.
3. Firewall telah didisable
C. Menggunakan Fasilitas VNC
Kita akan menggunakan fasilitas VNC menggunakan Mozilla Fire Fox. Pertama masuk Mozilla. Lalu pada Address bar ketik:
http://(Nomor IP computer yang akan di remote):5801//
Contoh: http://192.168.5.4:5801// lalu tekan Enter.
